GPS Spoofing / Navigation Warfare
Electronic WarfareOpen-Source Verified
Broadcasts fake GPS signals to confuse drone navigation systems. Can redirect drones off course, force landing, or cause them to crash by feeding incorrect position data.
How It Works
A transmitter generates counterfeit GPS satellite signals that overpower genuine ones. The drone's GPS receiver locks onto the false signals, receiving incorrect position and altitude data. This can gradually steer the drone off course or cause it to land at a false 'home' location.

Advantages
- + Effective against GPS-dependent drones
- + Can redirect drones instead of destroying them
- + Non-kinetic engagement
- + Effective at long range
- + Can protect large areas
- + Potentially allows drone capture
Disadvantages
- − Ineffective against visual/INS navigation
- − Affects friendly GPS receivers too
- − Complex to operate — requires trained personnel
- − Military GPS (M-code) more resistant
- − Fiber-optic drones are immune
- − Autonomous AI drones are immune
Tactical Deployment Tips
- ▸ Deploy around high-value assets and critical infrastructure
- ▸ Coordinate with friendly forces to switch to backup navigation
- ▸ Use in conjunction with RF jamming for layered EW defense
- ▸ Pre-plan spoofing patterns to direct drones into kill zones
Limitations & Vulnerabilities
- ⚠ Affects all GPS users in the area
- ⚠ Does not work against INS-only or visual navigation
- ⚠ Weather and terrain can affect spoofing signal propagation
- ⚠ Advanced drones may detect spoofing attempts

⚠ How Adversaries Defeat This System
Active enemy adaptations observed in the field — distinct from passive limitations above
- ▸ Inertial navigation (INS) continues mission when GPS is denied
- ▸ Multi-constellation receivers (GPS + GLONASS + Galileo + BeiDou) raise spoofing complexity
- ▸ Terminal EO/IR seekers ignore GPS in the final attack phase
- ▸ Visual terrain matching / map-based navigation sidesteps GPS entirely
